Task: In 3 minutes, explain why we should give you a job. Sample: Presentation by a professional language teacher in China [Zhengzhou, 2007]
1. Thank you for the chance to explain how I can help this college reach its goals. 2. When I studied the profile of ZRVTC I saw much that was familiar. 3. Most of the students here are trying to reach an IELTS level of 6 or 7. Many of them have a long way to go. 4. I have taught students just like this in 7 countries over many years. 5. I am extremely familiar with the requirements of IELTS, and its limitations. 6. My Masters degree examined the design of language tests. My doctoral dissertation was about language teaching productivity: that is, efficient teaching and learning. 7. Very few students here in Zhengzhou have international experience. I see that the program will encourage students to study in Australia. Therefore, I will be a bridge for them to a new language and new culture. 8. Although class language teaching always has a curriculum, English language is not a narrow skill. After college, students will find themselves in all kinds of workplaces and situations. a) Before I was a teacher I worked in many different kinds of occupations, in industry, business and government. b) After I became a teacher I taught numerous English classes in workplace programs, especially in Melbourne, Australia. c) Therefore I have a very clear idea of the kinds of English language students will need in the future. 9. I am not a stranger to China or Chinese culture. a) Between 1998 and 2000 I taught in universities in Wuhan. b) As long ago as 1974, as an undergraduate in New Zealand, I did a study course on Chinese society, history and culture. Since that time I have read hundreds of articles on the topic, as well as teaching large numbers of Chinese immigrants to Australia. Thank you again for listening.
