Speaking Topic 7 A speech of recollection
1. Perhaps most speeches look to the past in some way, as a lesson for the future. That's OK, but we can also look to occasions and scenes in the past just for the pleasure of story-telling. 2. What will interest the people you are talking to? What will they think is funny? That depends on their personalities. If they come from a different culture, you might have to fill in more background. 3. Paint a picture with words, but be clear and economical. 4. Choose your words to fit your audience. Remembering something, telling the same story, to a bunch of ten year olds needs different words and style from telling it to friends, or at a formal meeting. 5. Try to end your story with something for listeners to remember. Keep it simple.
