When a language learner hears/sees new language she tries to make it fit an old form.
The old form may be from her 1st language, or it may be previous experience with L2.
She may not be conscious of “trying” to make a fit with the old, but her mind resists.
The language teacher cannot win this fight directly. It takes cunning.
